Propellerhead Reason Version 4 – Thor Tutorial

Thor is a multi-synthesis synthesizer with six oscillator types, four different filters, a step sequencer and a modulation matrix. Fully routable. Fully automatable. Fully everything.

I don’t learn anything while looking @ this video…
Do you see a tutorial ???
By crazyape on Nov 6, 2007 | Reply
uh, did you watch the whole thing? starting at 1:00, he goes through every function of the Thor. I’d say that qualifies as a tutorial.

Yes this is a good tutorial! I am not sure what Axis missed on this one but I found it useful. Thanks a million… and please keep the tutorials coming!

this sorta is a tutorial… it explains the basic routing of the synth but i need more info! i don’t even know what they mean when they say these filters and i’ve made music all my life… what exactly IS each filter… but this video does explain the basic layout of the synth well. i understand Axis’s frustration. i’m so sick of people who say they’ll teach but assume you already know everything… WTF?!?!? low pass ladder filter? uh… what is that actually doing? wave table? WANT TO EXPLAIN WHAT THE F**K THAT MEANS? (yeah, it’s frustrating) regardless, i know more than i did before i watched this.

Hi, if you look on wikipedia you can find out what wave-table synthesis is – and it is also covered in the Reason help files. In fact the help files have in depth tutorials as well, in short this synthesizer is very powerful; possibly powerful enough to create more textured sounds than most hardware workstations using less PCM samples!

hi
how do you from thor copy pattern to track??????
By DR on Apr 7, 2009 | Reply
Jesus, do you want us to write your tracks for you?. if you cant grasp simple concepts like wavetables (or too lazy to even wikipedia it) then you should be back playing with fruity loops or some POS like that as thats all your going to be able to use.
Stop acting like the world owes you something and start doing things for yourself.

Dont be a dick DR, i learnt to use reason from absoloutely no knowledge at all, i didnt even know what MIDI meant, and the main thing i encountered was elitist reason users like yourself. This is a good tutorial for the thor but it isnt a good tutorial on what synth’s are and do and for someone just starting off it isnt much help. Wikipedia isn’t a learning tool its a reference tool so its not surprising people look for tutorials first. My advice to anyone who feels like this tutorial expects them to know stuff they dont is not to worry about whats happening on a fundamental level, just copy what he is doing but leave the vid on pause for a while as you experiment with what the filter or whatever does to the sound

It’s quite irritating having stupid f***ers who want you to teach them everything without doing the groundwork themselves. Lazy dumbfck!
Everyone learns by themselves.

I DIDNT KNOW SHIT UNTILLL I READ THE SUBTRACTOR CHAPTER IN THE MANUAL…THEN THINGS STARTED TO MAKE SENSE… FIRST, THIS IS A VIDEO GOING OVER ‘BRIEFLY’ BASIC FUNCTIONS ON THE THOR… HAVE YOU READ THE REASON MANUAL???? THE THOR SECTION? DO YOUR HOMEWORK, READ A SYNTHESIZER BOOK, . LEARN LIKE I DID, READ A BOOK , STICK WITH THE SUBTRACTOR “FOR NOW” AND LEARN IT. THEN >>>THE THOR WILL MAKE COMPLETE SENSE CHILL OUT BUDDY ITS ALL GOOD

Sounds like you need to learn about basic synthesizer functions.

If you want to understand synths, read Sound Synthesis and Sampling by Martin Russ. It’s a comprehensive description of what a synthesiser is, how it works, the various types of synthesis, how they are achieved, what they can achieve and other useful bits of information. The problem with most tutorials is that they don’t explain why something should be done or what it does. In other tutorials I’ve seen a complete lack of knowledge of the workings of synths, filters, etc. Read that book, understand music, and you’ll be able to achieve whatever sound you want.
